The blast of a cannon broke the quiet of Saturday morning, April 13, in Belvidere Park and set off several car alarms. “The guys can get a little boisterous,” said Kevin Behling, president of the IOU Club. The second test fire did not set off alarms and was judged to be fine. The third cannon blast at 11 a.m. would be the signal for the kids to begin gathering eggs during the IOU Club’s Easter Egg Hunt.
The appearance of the Easter Bunny at about 10:45 a.m. drew kids away from the hunting areas and racing to greet him. IOU members patrolled the three circles to ensure that everything was going according to plan. Each circle held plastic eggs, toys, and candies to please the kids. One circle was designated for kids up to three years old, one for those four to six years of age, and the third circle for kids aged seven to nine.
