Firefighters flip pancakes in Garden Prairie

“This is one of our annual fundraisers,” said volunteer firefighter Brian Block of Boone County Fire District 2 Firefighters Association of their pancake breakfast on Sunday, March 3. They were serving all-you-can-eat eggs (cooked to order your way), pancakes, sausage, bacon, applesauce, toast, milk, and coffee for a donation only. They even had crayons and coloring sheets for the kids while you waited. Adults were allowed to color also, but the firefighters had orders delivered inside of five minutes so not many had time to color. They also had sausage for sale in five and ten pound boxes.
“Last year we had over 600 people come to our breakfast. The year before that we had over 800. It takes a lot of prep work to clean the station well enough to serve food to everyone and it is all done with volunteer labor. We have 20 to 25 firefighters volunteering their time this morning to serve pancakes to the community But we do it all for the Garden Prairie community.”
