Harlem High’s National Champ bowlers honored at board meeting
Village of Machesney Park trustees took care of a number of items at the July 1 meeting of trustees. Village president Steve Johnson noted: “I personally want to thank all of the coaches, players and parents for their time and dedication they put into this team’s season, which ultimately resulted in this team achieving the Highest Honor National Champions 2024!”
Johnson also thanked everyone who attended or participated in the Hot Rods and Hot Eats monthly car show on June 29 at the Town Center’s former Machesney Mall site, and noted “They had over 200 vintage/classic cars and trucks in attendance with five local food trucks. Over 500 People attended this event and the next Hot Rods and Hot Eats is scheduled for July 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Town Center. This event is held the fourth Saturday of each month thru the month of September.”
Johnson also recognized and thanked Vietnam2Now member Nick Parnello and his fellow veterans from Operation Fallen Flag for their help in replacing a dated American and Gold Star Flag for a local Gold Star mother.
*A variance to “Allow an Accessory Structure where there is no principal structure” at 9517 Baldwin Dr., final reading, passed.
*An Intergovernmental Agreement with North Park Public Water District for “groundwater monitoring wells” was okayed.
*An ordinance for a zoning map amendment for 600 Wood Ave. from an R-1 Single-Family Residential Zoning District to a “CC” status Commercial Community Zoning District passed.
*An ordinance to adopt the 2040 Machesney Park Comprehensive Land Use Plan was approved.
Johnson, as is always the case, stressed to attendees to “Please shop locally for it helps your local businesses/community year round.”
On the agenda, prior to the board meeting, a public hearing was held on the proposal to approve a business district plan to designate the Machesney Park/Perryville Road/Route 173 business district area…and to impose “certain hotel and retail sales taxes as permitted by law.”
