Harlem’s junior varsity and varsity boys outdoor track teams were a presence at this year’s NIC-10 meet, with the JVs taking second and the varsity, fifth.

Individually, the formidable varsity throwing contingent led by senior Riley Lundgren, continued preparing for the IHSA state tournament series, which is at hand. Part of that preparation was the conference meet when Lundgren set a new Harlem record in the discus of 174 feet, 3 inches, eclipsing the standard held by Anthony McKinney, at 172 feet, 6 inches, which he established in 2016. In winning the discus Lundgren emerged as the only individual conference champion for Harlem’s varsity.

He and junior KeShawn Harrington-McKinney finished 1-2 in the discus, and they also were 2-3 in the shot put. Their respective throws in the shot were 50 feet even and 47 feet, 8 inches.

The junior varsity had three conference champions. They were:

* 4-by-800-meter relay team consisting of four freshmen, Dominic Carlson, Tyrcha, Owen Recoy and Leo Ramos. Their time was 8:55.16.

Team-wise, Belvidere North won the varsity side of the conference meet, totaling 115 points to 93 for second-place Hononegah. Rockford East (77) was third; Rockford Guilford (76), fourth; and Harlem (53), fifth.

Hononegah rang up 166 points to be the JV champion with rival Harlem close behind, having amassed 126 points. Rockford Auburn (80) was third; Belvidere North (68), fourth; and Rockford East (32), fifth.
