Harlem Rolls Past Belvidere North to Take Over NIC-10

Belvidere North ran into a red-hot group of Lady Huskies when the undefeated Conference Co-Leaders met at The Cherry Bowl last week. Harlem dominated the first game with a 1,390 pin fall, its highest total of the season and best so far in the NIC-10. It just got worse for North as the Lady Huskies finished with a three-game 3,801 series, their top total this winter. The Lady Blue Thunder wound up with 3,310 pins. Meanwhile, the Boys Team also remained unbeaten, handily defeating North by 531 pins. Its 4,126 pin fall was a team best for the season.
Stephanie Richards sparked the Lady Huskies with a personal best 686 series that included a 267 high game. The single game was tops for the day, with the series being third best. Alexandria Buffington recorded a personal best 596 series with Laura Bartelt, in her second Varsity appearance, had a 542 series, a new high for her, to go with a 212 single game. Harlem got more strong performances from Becca Hagerman with a 687 series and Mylee McCracken with a 652. Eight girls bowled against North with Treasure Childs having a two-game 385 series; Kayla Verstraete, a two-game 382; and Angel Grinnall a 201 single game.
Collin Day turned in a personal best 696 series, which included a 259 single game, while Jake Nimtz added a 275 single game, his best so far in the Conference. Dawson Jones’ 740 series was not his high so far this season, but it did rank third among those bowled in week 5. Jake’s 275 also came in third individually. Noah Mandujano cracked 700 for the first time in NIC-10 play when he turned in a 706 against the Blue Thunder. He rolled a 688 on opening day. Kyler Gerl had a 656; Nick Howard, a 592.
Defeat Boylan Twice
Harlem’s Boys and Girls didn’t have any trouble disposing of Boylan on Dec. 8. The Huskies won, 4,062 – 3,193, with the Lady Huskies in command, 3,749 – 2,476. The 4,062 pin fall was a season high for Harlem and also ranked first in that day’s five matches. So did the 1,400 single game, which set the tone for the afternoon. Jones led the boys with a personal best 762 series followed by Nimtz with a 738, his high so far this winter; Mandujano, a 664, Gerl, a 663, Howard, a 636, and Day, a 599. Junior Darby Windsor bowled in his first Varsity match and recorded a single game of 214.
For the Lady Huskies, Childs turned in a personal best 580 series along with a 223 single game. Hagerman and Verstraete had the top series of the day, each with a 681, while McCracken was close behind with a 652. Richards recorded a 594; and Grinnall, a 561.
JVs Still on Top
Harlem’s Junior Varsity Boys and Girls remained unbeaten and in first place following victories over Belvidere North. Ethan Pash rolled a 642 series while Cody Lawrence had a 267 single game to lead the 3,487 – 2,828 win. Lawrence’s 267 ranks second in the Conference for the season.
The Lady Huskies won, 3,154 – 1,362, behind a 553 series from Savanna Bogenfief, which was third best for the day. Earlier this season she rolled a 225 single game, which still is third high in Conference play.
