Harlem to have senior-laden girls varsity basketball team

Coaches who have been around for a while always find themselves facing different challenges as new seasons approach.
Bethany Meyer will be returning for her third year as head coach of the girls varsity basketball team at Harlem High School. Her first two seasons were successful, first with 20 wins and now an overall 14-13 mark.
The 2016-17 team pri-marily was young with one senior – Kahley Logan – and a long list of juniors to go with one freshman and one sophomore.
The 2017-18 team will have plenty of experience with each of the remaining 11 on the roster receiving varying amounts of playing time this year.
Of the recently concluded season coach Meyer said, “We made some significant gains in our toughness and ability to find a way to win. We relied heavily on our only senior, Kahley Logan, for points and rebounding and she was incredibly consistent, which contributed to our ability to have a winning season.”
In addition, Logan was selected first team, all-conference, which coach Meyer said was a true ac-complishment because of the quality of players in the conference.
As a junior, Logan aver-aged 7.29 points per game while shooting 48 percent from the field. She averaged five rebounds per game to go with 1.18 steals.
As a senior, she improved greatly in all categories, averaging 13.8 points per game, 8.2 rebounds per game and 1.44 steals per game.
She was the leading scorer in 17 of the Lady Huskies’ 27 games; scored in double digits in 21 games and scored more than 20 points in six games. Additionally, she hauled down more than 10 rebounds in 12 games while recording 11 double-doubles, which was 42 percent of Harlem’s games.
