Two consecutive disap-pointments were enough for Harlem’s varsity boys bowl-ing team.
Sparked once again by their three superlative se-niors, the Huskies won the Vernon Hills sectional tour-nament championship on Saturday. That ensured a berth in the state finals for the fourth straight year.
It was Rockford East, not rival Hononegah, that chal-lenged Harlem in the sectional. The E-Rabs took second place with a 6,398 pinfall, just 43 pins behind the champion Huskies. Rockford Christian came in third with Hononegah in fourth, Sycamore in fifth and Freeport in sixth.
That gave the NIC-10 another three representatives at the state tournament.
Harlem’s 6,441 pinfall was second among the four sectional winners. Only Belleview East, Collinsville champion, had more with 6,519 pins. The other sec-tional champs were Minooka (6,179) and Lake Park (6,176).
The state finals will be held Friday and Saturday at downstate O’Fallon. Hononegah finished second at state last year, with Harlem in fourth.
At Vernon Hills, Collin Day led the Huskies with a six-game 1,347 series, aver-aging 225 per game. Jake Nimtz was next with a 1,310 followed by Dawson Jones at 1,289. Sophomore Noah Mandujano contributed a 1,263; junior Kyler Gerl shot 1,232.
