Harlem’s Jake Nimtz will Commit to McKendree U.
Harlem High School Senior Jake Nimtz is planning to sign a letter of intent to attend McKendree University in downstate Lebanon, near St. Louis. The signing is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday (Dec. 2) at Forest Hills Lanes in Loves Park. McKendree is the reigning National Intercollegiate Men’s Champion.
This is Jake’s fourth season with the Harlem Varsity. As a Sophomore he set a new State Tournament record by recording a 12-game, 3,011 series that included two 300 games. He was the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player as Harlem took second place that year. Last summer he was named a Rockford United States Bowling Congress Bowler of the Year. He won a related tournament, defeating Brandon Mooney of Hononegah by winning the decisive third game of their championship match. So far in this, his final year as a Huskie, he has finished first, sixth and second in three preseason tournaments, averaging 247, 224 and 255 respectively. Harlem competed in more tournaments Thanksgiving weekend, with the NIC-10 action having opened on Nov. 29.
Jake has the opportunity to become the all-time pin leader for the Illinois High School Association at the upcoming State Tournament in March 2017. He needs 2,410 pins to pass the current title holder, Alex Hensler of Salem.
