Hononegah Girls Swimming Off to a Good Start
The Hononegah Indian girls had a busy week in the pool. On Tuesday they finished 4th at the 42st Annual Mermaid Relays hosted by Rockford East High School.
All of the Indians relay teams placed in the top six led by with 3rd place finishes in the 200 Yard Medley relay, with the team of Julia Carabelli, Megan Leppert, Emily McCabe and Emily Bax swimming a time of 2:03.55, the 200 Yard Freestyle Cresendo relay team of Anna Schneider, Meghan Lindsey, Emily Bax and Madaline Massetti swimming a 1:58.86.
Carabelli and Massetti also teamed with Linsey and Jaqueline Lefevre for a 3rd place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle relay and McCabe and Bax for a 3rd place in the 400 Yard Freesyle relay with a tie of 4:05.79. Lindsey, Lefevre, Carabelli and Massetti were 4th in the 100 Yard Backstroke relay.
The Fresh/Soph 200 Yard Freestyle relay team of Ashlyn Dull, Kyra Cure, Madison Richeson and Stephanie Betts placed 5th with a time of 2:02.41. McCabe, Leppert and Betts teamed with Maggie He to finish 5th in the 4 x 100IM relay. McCabe, Leppert, Betts and Dull were also 5th in the 100 Yard Butterfly relay.
Leppert, Cure, Lindsey and He placed 6th in the 100 Yard Breaststroke relay. The Freshman 100 Yard Freestyle relay team of Chloe Richeson, Isabelle Myers, Molly Schneider and Cure also had a 6th place finish.
The 11 team meet was won by McHenry with 143 points, Belvidere Co-op Second with 125 points, Boylan 3rd with 123 points and the Indians 4th with 107 points.
On Saturday the girls built on their Tuesday performance with the Varsity Girls finishing 3rd at the Dave Logterman Invite at Harlem High School and the JV girls finishing in 2nd place.
Sophomore Abigal Hellinga grabber the Indians only 1st place finish at the Varsity level by winning diving with an 11 dive total of 362.80 points. Sophomore Kaitlynn Alt was 3rd with 262.50 points.
Molly Lindsey placed 3rd at the JV level with a six dive total of 117.05 points.
The Varsity swimmers were led by senior Julia Carabelli and sophomore Emily McCabe.
McCabe was 2nd in both the 200IM, 2:26.20 and the 100 Butterfly, 1:05.62; Carabelli was 2nd in the 200 Freestyle, 2:10.93 and 5th in the 500 Freestyle, 5:52.62.
Other top 12 individuals were junior Madeline Massetti finishing 4th in the 100 Freestyle, 1:00.21 and 8th in the 100 Breaststroke, 1:22.53; junior Emily Bax finishing 4th in the 50 Freestyle, 27.74 and 5th in the 100 freestyle, 1:01.05; sophomore Megan Leppert was 4th in the 100 Breaststroke, 1:18.95 and 8th in the 200 IM, 2:36.57, sophomore Stephanie Betts finished 8th in the 100 Butterfly, 1:19.83 and 10th in the 500 Freestyle, 6:47.35; senior Jaqueline Leferve finished 7th in the 100 Backstroke, 1:15.07 and 9th in the 200 Freestyle, 2:22.90; freshman Kyra Cure was 10th in the 200 Freestyle, 2:24.24 and 9th in the 100 Freestyle, 1:05.26; junior Emma Dirkse finished 10th in the 50 Freestyle, 31.75 and junior Maggie He finished 11th in the 100 Breaststroke, 1:30.78.
The Varsity 200 Medley team of Carabelli, Leppert, McCabe and Bax was 3rd with a time of 2:04.01, the 200 Freestyle team of McCabe, Cure, Lefevre and Massetti finished 4th with a time of 1:54.16 and the 400 Freestyle team of Carabelli, Leppert, Bax and Massetti finished 3rd with a time of 4:06.35.
The JV swimmers had top 6 finishes by Rima Bouhal finishing 1st in the 100 Butterfly, 1:24.73 and 4th in the 200IM, 3:00.11; Molly Schneider with a 5th place in the 200 Freestyle, 2:55.54; Oliva Dirkse 3rd in the 50 Freestyle, 32.99; Chloe Richeson 1st in the 100 Freestyle and, 1:11.58 and 6th in the 100 Backstroke, 1:23.78; Isabelle Myers 3rd in the 100 Freestyle, 1:12.00; Oliva Dirkse 4th in the 100 Freestyle, 1:13.84; Samantha Doyle 3rd in the 500 Freestyle, 7:20.86 and 6th in the 100 Breaststroke, 1:37.42.
The JV 200 Medley Relay team of Hannah Bolstad, He, Dull and Emma Dirkse finished 3rd with a time of 2:26.03. The 200 Freestyle team of Cure, Betts, He and Emma Dirske was also 3rd with a time of 2:01.29 and 400 Freestyle team of Myers, Lefevre, Betts and Dull finished in 1st place with a time of 4:37.04.
The Indians are currently 4–0 in dual meets with victories over Harlem, Jefferson, East and Auburn.

The divers are coached by Gary Wright, Sr. The Indians continue their season Thursday hosting Freeport and Guilford in a double dual meet at the Boylan Swim Complex at 4:45 p.m. They host the Hononegah Invite on Saturday at the Boylan Swim Complex at 10 a.m.
