Hononegah Swimmers, Divers Open Season with Sweep at Harlem
The Hononegah Indians Boys Swim and Dive Team opened the season in a wave of success at the Dave Logterman Memorial Invitational at Harlem High School on Saturday, Dec. 3. Both the Junior Varsity and the Varsity teams captured first place at what was formerly called the Harlem Invitational. Top performances of the day were posted by Senior Cole Harner and Sophomore Camden Leonard. Harner was first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 50.98 while Leonard took first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:13.02. Harner also took third place in the 200 yard individual medley (2:11.96) and Leonard repeated that placing in the 200 yard freestyle (1:54.45). Senior Zac Amenda had a notable day with second place finishes in the 50 yard freestyle as well as the 100 free.
Hononegah’s relays also tallied points for the team, taking second places in all three races. In the 200 yard Medley Relay, Freshman Jalen Stimes, Senior Nate Fiorini, Harner and Amenda teamed up to post a time of 1:47.08, coming in behind Byron (1:43.69). The 200 yard freestyle relay, comprised of Amenda, Fiorini, Senior Dylan Anderson and Leonard, hit the wall behind Byron again with a time of 1:36.80. The foursome of Leonard, Senior Anthony Harris, Stimes, and Harner tallied second in the final relay of the day, coming in second to Algonguin-Jacobs. Other notable finishes included a third place posting by Fiorini in the 100 yard breaststroke, fifth place in the same race for Sophomore Zach Hale, and fourth place for Stimes in the 100 yard backstroke.
In JV swimming, several top finishes were captured. Relay teams were on their game, finishing first in all three relays. The 200 medley relay team was comprised of Freshman Ben Stimes, and Sophs Zach Hale, Jacob McCabe and James Bockover-McCormick, while the 200 free relay had a foursome of Bockover-McCormick, Lucas Hale, Zach Hale, and McCabe. The 400 free relay was made up of Ryan Nowicki, Aidan Berg, Brown and Ben Stimes. Lucas Hale was also the top swimmer in the 200 free as well as the 100 breaststroke, while Noah Schlichting came in a close second. Schlichting also posted second in the 100 backstroke. Ben Stimes took first in the 100 butterfly while Austin Brown was second in the 50 free.
