The Boone County Museum of History held their annual Ice Cream Social fundraiser on Tuesday afternoon, August 20. Local singer/songwriter Dan Holmes was entertaining the crowd and local dignitaries such as Sheriff Ernest and the 2019 Boone County Fair Queen and Little Miss were thoroughly enjoying themselves.
“This is the 14th Annual Ice Cream Social,” said BCMS executive director Anna Pivoras. “It is our big fundraiser for the year. We are trying to add more activities this year – the Ida Public Library is here doing a make-and-take craft and coloring sheets. We are very thankful that Manley Ford-Lincoln is doing a test drive fundraiser for us, which brings in $20 for every person who does a test drive/survey.
“As always, Dean Foods has generously donated 20 tubs of ice cream and Costco, Doctors Dale and Elaine Drake, DDS, and Berg Industries have all contributed to the success of this event. We always look forward to hearing Dan Holmes perform and there is always a core group of volunteers that do a fantastic job to make this event successful every year.”
When asked if she was enjoying the Ice Cream Social, Little Miss Boone County, Marrah Vander Vennet, (licking her fork) said, “It’s good.”
Emily Carter, Miss Boone County 2019 said, “I’m enjoying seeing everyone come out and enjoying the pie. We’re asking everyone what kind of pie they had, or are going to have.”
A Rockford visitor was very impressed. “I went to their annual Ice Cream Social yesterday, and stopped in the Museum, almost as an afterthought. Little did I know….”
