Kids Fishing Tournament held at Candlewick Lake
By Barb Appelhans
Candlewick Lake Fish Club held their Annual Kids fishing Tournament Sunday June 30. There were 4 age groups: 3-6, 7-9, 10-13 and 14-16. Prizes were handed out for Biggest Fish, Most Fish, and Smallest Fish.
18 kids, with their parents or guardian, showed up at the Recreation Center to register at 8:45 a.m. {you know they love to fish how else could you get kids out of bed that early during summer vacation?). Fishing started at 9 a.m. and ended at 10:30 a.m.
This was a ‘kids only’ and ‘from the shore’ tournament. Guardians or parents were to only unhook fish or bait the hooks. Each child had a card pinned to their backs with their names. Each time they brought in a fish they were to either call a official or bring the fish to them so it could be measured and recorded on the card. The card was turned in at the end of the tournament.
Once again, like this years Men’s Bass Tournament, a new Candlewick Lake Record was set. The new record was for the Biggest Bass caught during the Kids Fishing Tournament – a 19-½ inch beauty brought in by Cyler Progle.
Thanks to the generous sponsors JD Counter Side Marathon, Snyder Pharmacy, Subway, Candlewick Lake Association, and Candlewick Management every one left a winner.
Chuck Hart who is pictured with the children awarding the prizes is the head of Candlewick Lake Management and the Candlewick Anglers Fishing Club. Chuck Hart not only organized and ran this tournament with help of volunteers but also runs the Men’s Bass Tournament every year. I’m sure Candlewick Lake appreciates all your hard work.
