BOONE COUNTY – They don’t have a lot of flashy 700-plus series or single games hovering around the 300 mark. Yet, Belvidere’s girls bowling team has been consistent week after week to be one game out of first place as the 2015-2016 season passed the half-way mark.

The Lady Bucs recently improved to 4-1 with victories over Auburn, 3,123 to 1,269, and Hononegah, 3,094 to 2,907. That put them in a tie for second place with cross-county rival Belvidere North and Guilford.

Harlem’s standout Lady Huskies are in first with a 5-0 record following the Dec. 15 win over the previously undefeated Lady Blue Thunder, 3,517 to 3,268. That three-game series is now the high for the season.

In boys’ action Belvidere North went from 3-0 to 3-2 following losses to conference powerhouses Hononegah, 4,085 to 3,755, and Harlem, 4,182 to 3,367. And Belvidere slipped to 1-4, losing to Auburn, 3,629 to 3,237 and Hononegah, 4,001 to 3,278.

The Lady Bucs’ win over Auburn was routine, led by Hannah Lowery’s three game 579 series. Also contributing were Holley Steelberg with a 546; Sara Deddo, a 541; Hailey Carter, a 540; Alexis Sherman, a 517; and Madelyn Deardorff, a 400.

Deddo recorded a personal best 618 series and new high game of 212 to pace the victory over Hononegah. Two more season’s bests came from Deardorff, with a 547 series and a 204 single game. Carter chipped in a 539; Lowery, a 513; Sherman, a 446; and Steelberg, a 431.

The Lady Blue Thunder started the week with a 3,358 to 2,833 victory over Hononegah.

Platt had an exemplary night with a personal best 706 series. Alexis Bedorf also turned in a new season high, a 553 series, to go with a 199 single game.

Others contributing to the win were Kylie Johnson with a 605; Brynn Lambrecht, a 509; and Annissa Hintt, a 506. The rest of the games were divided among Emily Nakashima, with a two-game 320 series; and Kaitlynn Trimble, who carded a 159 single game.

Platt had another good outing, with a 624 series against Harlem, but the Lady Huskies had too much firepower for North. Lambrecht recorded a personal best 571 with a 213 single game; Johnson had a 584; Bedorf tied her previous best series with a 553; Hintt had a 518; and Nakashima, a 418.
