BYRON – The Winnebago Lady Indians season came to an end on Thursday, Feb. 18, at the hands of the Byron Lady Tigers at the Byron Sectional 70-32.

While the Lady Indians enjoyed a fine season by turning things around from the previous season, where they finished sub .500, and winning a Regional title for the first time in 11 years. The girls just didn’t have enough talent to overcome the Lady Tigers talent.

Byron jumped out to a big lead in the contest, but Winnebago was able to close the gap to 15-9 in the first quarter. That would be as close as they would get as Byron went on big scoring runs and led by a score of 41-13 at half time.

The gym was packed with fans from both teams and anticipations ran high. Students showed lots of team spirit from both schools. In the end though, Byron’s athleticism won out, as the Indians just didn’t have enough to keep up.

Byron extended the lead to 61-25 by the end of the third quarter and then won going away with a 70-32 victory.

Mandy Williams finished with 13 points to lead in scoring for the Lady Indians, while teammate Kiah Garrigan finished with 11 points. Alyssa Thompson chipped in four points, while Abby Krause and Tiana Bielskis each scored two.

The Lady Indians have much to look forward to next season. Congrats to this years team on their accomplishments.
