The North Boone Lady Vikings winter sports season has come to a close. Following a loss to the defending Regional Champion Winnebago Lady Indians on Wednesday Feb. 7, 49-25, uniforms were turned in and all of the athlete’s attention turned to the open fields and the spring sports waiting.

Advancing to the Winnebago 2A Regional Semi-Final meant the Lady Vikings had to win their opening round match. They were issued the seven-seed by the IHSA Selection Committee, which made them a slight favorite over their Monday, Feb. 5 opponent, eight-seed Rockford Christian. They came through and moved on as a result.

The Lady Vikings tamed the Lady Royal Lions with a 59-33 quarterfinal winner. It was the second time this season North Boone had handled Rockford Christian.

In their first meeting, on Jan. 19, North Boone’s defense wasn’t as sharp. The offense put out a little less too. Things weren’t as smooth. But the 49-38 Conference winner was followed up by another win over a local rival. North Boone topped Harvard by nearly 30 points, 55-28. It marked the second time this season where back-to-back wins were collected. Things flowed. Similarly to how things went in the 2A opener.

North Boone controlled Rockford Christian’s attack paths in the 2018, 2A Girls’ Basketball State Championship tournament tip-off. The looks weren’t there and the player’s weren’t as open. The offense couldn’t get going.
