Local horticulture educator wins state award
BOONE COUNTY – Candice Miller, University of Illinois Extension Horticulture Educator, has been awarded the 2015 Illinois Extension Agriculture Association Action Award.
The IEAA Action Award is presented to members who have displayed early career initiative in both program design and delivery, while having been with Extension for less than five years.
As a Horticulture Educator, Miller designs her programming based on the interests of her participants. She determines what will attract the local community through the use of post-program surveys.
This allows Miller to appeal to her local audiences. Miller presents her programs in a variety of formats that range from traditional PowerPoint delivery to hands-on demonstrations. She encourages her audience to participate and be active in her programs.
Miller reaches out to her program participants through her various social media outlets, like Facebook and Twitter. “The goal of my horticulture programs is to educate and inspire those around me,” Miller said.
