The Loves Park City Council was busy during the council meeting on Oct. 5.

A number of ordinances, first reading, were approved:

*A special use permit for a drive-thru window in a commercial retail zoning area in the I-90 East Riverside Blvd. Overlay District in the 7100 block of E. Riverside was okayed.

*A landscape buffer variance along Kings Acres Dr. and Hangar Road at 7190 E. Riverside was approved.

*A variance allowing for a parking pad in the 6600 block of Red Bard Road was passed.

*A variance allowing for an accessory structure at 912 Theodore St. was approved.

*A variance allowing for a five-foot fence in the front yard setback at 610 Trent Lane was okayed.

*A zoning map amendment for property “known as 61XX Commonwealth Dr.” passed.

*An ordinance authorizing the fire chief to dispose of certain obsolete fire equipment to salvage was okayed.

*An ordinance establishing salaries for aldermen was passed.

*Ordinances establishing salaries for the mayor, city treasurer, and city clerk were approved.

The mayor’s salary, for fiscal year effective May 2021 will be $97,097.52; $100,981.42 in May 2022; $105,020.69 for May 2023; and $109,221.50 for May 2024.

This salary, per the ordinance, “shall be a full-time mayor. In addition to the above salary, the mayor shall be furnished an automobile and its expenses for his use in the performance of duty…The city shall also pay for medical and health insurance coverage for the mayor and dependents under the group policy as provided for the regular employees and their families.”

The treasurer’s and the city clerk’s salaries for fiscal year effective May 2021 will be $80,913.71; $83,341.12 in May 2022; $85,841.35 for May 2023; and $99,416.59 for May 2024.

These salaries, per the ordinance, “The city shall also pay for medical and health insurance coverage for the mayor and dependents under the group policy as provided for the regular employees and their families…”

Two resolutions were also approved:

*One authorizing the mayor to sign an Agreement with the Cross Creek Condo Association for snow removal services; the other authorizing the street department manager to hire seasonal part-time personnel for snow removal.

The street department personnel will be paid $22 an hour.

Per the weekly police activity report for the week of September 20 through 26, the department received 613 calls for service, made 137 arrests, and responded to nine accidents.

During the previous week, besides other duties, the street department rebuilt 10 catch basins in Pebble Creek and assisted the water department with a couple of water main breaks.

The water department, along with other tasks, continued with hydrant repairs from flushing and continued flushing hydrants for ISO compliance; rebuilt a water hydrant that had been hit at N. Second Street and Grand Avenue.; repaired a water main break at Clifford and East Dr.
