LOVES PARK – At the May 9 Loves Park City Council meeting, Mayor Darryl Lindberg issued two proclamations: one to Kishwaukee ABATE declaring the month of May as “Motorcycle Awareness Month,” (the 30th anniversary) and the other declaring Saturday, May 14 as “Letter Carriers Food Drive Day” (its 22nd event).

The mayor noted that there would be no May 30 city council meeting, offices will be closed in honor of Memorial Day.

Alderman A. Marie Holmes gave the April building report statistics, in which 101 permits were issued and $5,880 in permit fees collected.

Alderman Clint Little gave the weekly police activity report for the week of May 1-7. There were 562 calls for service received, 310 arrests/warning tickets issued, and 10 accidents responded to.

On the weekly fire department report dated May 8, two fire calls, two false fire alarm calls, one natural gas leak call, one assist police call, and two smoke or odor investigation calls.

Aldermen approved payment of $38,880.30 in water department bills, and $92,591.72 in general fund and all other bills, as presented May 2.

A special event permit for Deery Companies, Inc., Rockford Speedway, Inc. and Checkered Flag Room, Inc. to hold the Rockford Town Fair at the Speedway, 9572 Forest Hills Road was okayed.

Dates and times are Wed. July 6, 6-10 p.m.; Thurs. July 7, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Friday, July 8, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Approval was given subject to the condition that all persons drinking alcohol must have a wristband and alcohol banding. I.D. stations will be located throughout the festival grounds at all points of alcoholic beverage sales.

A resolution at a cost not to exceed $20,000 authorizing maintenance services for various drainage ditches and channels, along with tree removal as needed, throughout the city was approved starting May 1 and ending April 30, 2017.

A resolution authorizing the street department manager to seek bids for the 2016 Annual Road Maintenance Program and asphalt repairs due to watermain breaks.

Two ordinances, first reading were approved: a Class R1 (full restaurant with attached enclosed patio) liquor license for The Speakeasy at 1034 Windsor Road; the second also providing for a Class R1 liquor license for Joe’s Casa Di Amici at 200 E. Riverside Blvd.

Three ordinances, first and second readings, were passed: a variance to widen a driveway at 1113 Northfield Ave.; a variance to allow a covered porch to extend six feet in the required building setback at the same address; and an ordinance providing for an amendment to a special use permit to allow 36 percent of the building to be used as office space, and 64 percent to be used as warehouse space in a multi-tenant commercial building in a commercial retail zoning district at 518 Merrill Ave.
