Loves Park Police arrest two on drug, weapon charges
On Monday, Aug. 1, at around 1:42 a.m., a vehicle was stopped in the 5100 block of Rockberry Road. During the stop, a K-9 was deployed to sniff around the outside of the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted.
The driver, Maurice TL Buchanan, 20, of Rockford, was arrested (photo left). He was charged with Possession With Intent To Deliver Less Than 15 Grams of Cocaine Within 1,000 Feet of a Park, Possession of a Stolen Gun, Possession of a Firearm by a Street Gang Member, Armed Violence, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Violation of the Firearm Owners Identification Act.
The passenger of the vehicle, Shawn D. Cooper, 41, of Loves Park was also arrested. He was charged with Possession of Less than 15 Grams of Cocaine and Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia. Both men were lodged in Winnebago County Jail.
The charges are merely allegations, and the defendants are considered innocent, unless proven guilty in a court of law.
