Two new Loves Park Police Officers were sworn in by Mayor Darryl Lindberg at the Sept. 19 City Council meeting. Alexander Jenkins is a 2012 graduate of Auburn High School. He was employed previously at Gleason Cutting Tools for two years and was a Corrections Officer for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office before joining the Loves Park Police Department. Lucas Limberg graduated in 2011 from Hononegah High School and from Olivet Nazarene University in 2015. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science with a Major in Criminal Justice. He also worked at Frito Lay in Beloit.

In other business, Mary Dammann, Rockford Chapter; Daughters of the American Revolution, Secretary was present to accept a proclamation from the Mayor declaring the week of Sept. 17 – 23 as “Constitution Week” in the city. According to the DAR website, the aim of the “Constitution Week” celebration was to: Emphasize citizens’ responsibilities for protecting and defending the Constitution. Inform people that the Constitution is the basis for America’s great heritage and the foundation for our way of life. Encourage the study of the historical events which led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787.

Aldermen approved payment of $17,544.52 in Water Department bills, and $475,442.86 in General Fund and all other bills, as presented at the Sept. 12 Council meeting. A resolution authorizing repairs to the deck of the Riverside Bridge over the river at an estimated cost of $73,461 was okayed. Civil Constructors, Inc. of Freeport will do the work. Approval was given to a resolution authorizing paving restoration at Water Well No. 3 by William Charles Co. for $7,172.

Alderman Clint Little gave the weekly Police Activity Report for the week of Sept. 11 – 17. There were 656 calls for service, 233 arrests and seven accidents that were reported. On the Fire Department Report dated Sept. 18, one mutual aid call, one carbon monoxide or gas leak, two public service calls, one odor investigation call, one wires down call and one fire alarm call were reported.
