At the village’s May 19 bi-monthly board of trustees meeting, Mayor Steve Johnson noted, “First this evening I’m honored to recognize Hennig with the Village’s Community Investment Award! Hennig (9900 N. Alpine Road) is the largest industrial generator enclosure manufacturer in the U.S. and its generator enclosures help power essential infrastructure worldwide from data centers to healthcare facilities! It has seen exciting growth in our Village and is constantly expanding its export team of manufactures and engineers.

“Hennig is deeply committed to professionalism and strengthening our local economy through offering stable, high paying jobs!”

Johnson continued, “At this time we would like to present the Community Investment Award in recognition and gratitude of Hennig’s numerous investments in Machesney Park and the creation of the Hennig Campus in the Village! The plaque reads as follows: Community Investment Award presented to Hennig. In recognition of your significant ongoing facility expansions, and for your relentless service and dedication to the Village of Machesney Park. Thank you from the Mayor and board of Trustees- dated May 19, 2025.”

Additionally, Johnson also noted that he was honored to “recognize Field Fastener (9883 N. Alpine Road) with the Village’s Community Investment Award. Field is known for its excellent workplace, strong supply partnership, global customer base, and truly is the cornerstone business here in Machesney Park. Most importantly Field Fastener strives to improve the lives of its employee’s, customers and the community by placing a high value on people. They support multiple nonprofits in our community, showing their commitment to giving back.

“As they expand in Arizona and Arkansas, we recognize and thank Field Fastener for maintaining its World Headquarters here in Machesney Park. The Community Investment Award is our way of saying thank you for your outstanding commitment to the Village. The plaque reads as follows; Community Investment Award,,,presented to Bill and Jim Derry, Field Fastener in celebration of your company’s  expansion in opening two new locations in Arkansas and Arizona, and to express the Village’s appreciation for your long-term commitment to the Machesney Park community- Thank you: from the Mayor and Board of Trustee’s, dated May 19, 2025.”

Under communications two proclamation were also read: the Police Week for May 11-17 report and the Public Works week May 18-24 report.

–In additional business, the village board approved the following items:

*First reading of an ordinance Special Use Permit for Multi-Family Planned Unit Development at 7633 N Perryville Road. This special use permit allows for the construction of a 40-unit, 55-plus senior housing development and was approved, as were the following items:.

*First reading of an ordinance for a variance from Accessory Building front Setback Regulations; First reading of an ordinance for a variance from Accessory Building Size and height regulations; first reading of an ordinance for a text amendment “to Prohibit Long-Term Hotel/Motel stays that brings hotels into compliance and prohibits hotels from allowing guests to stay at hotels for longer than 30 days, except in the event of a major natural disaster where someone has lost their home.”

Other items approved included a First reading of an ordinance “Adopting the official zoning map for the Village of Machesney Park.”

* A first reading of an ordinance “Amending Chapter 4 to decrease the number of CG license, approve a class GC and Class G license for Casey’s located at 9601 Forest Hills Road.”

* Approved Resolution 27-R-25 A resolution was also passed for Redevelopment with Michelson Properties, LLC, which “is a redevelopment agreement for the Machesney Park Town Center (formerly Machesney Park Mall), PCI Pharmaceutical will be taking 105,000 sq ft for warehouse space, Hennig will be taking 40,000 sq ft of the former big lots and vacated interior of the mall, and the Burlington space will be aggressively market and ready for new occupancy following their relocation to Illinois Route 173 in the fall. With these new changes, the village will provide Michelsen Properties LLC with Tax Increment Financing funding necessary to re-tenant the remaining vacant space and repaint the exterior for a consistent facade appearance. The building will also be rebranded as “Town Center Business Center.” With 90 percent of the tax increment to be generated by the property and that will be remitted to the developer through the year 2031.

*Approved a resolution for “Authorization to purchase a 2024 John Deere 352G Track Skid Steer at a cost not to exceed $78, 199.80 yo be paid and budgeted through the Fiscal Year 2026 Public Works Department Capital outline line item; approved a resolution for a Redevelopment Agreement with Machesney 173, LLC with the village providing TIF assistance for the developer.

Additionally, a resolution was passed to award a construction contract for Illinois Hwy. 251 Median Improvements…also accepted was a bid for the reconstruction of IL 251 medians by Norwest Construction, Inc for a total of $1,046,311.81 and funded through the Village’s Rebuild Illinois funds.

Two community investment awards were also presented.

Mayor Johnson ended the meeting by saying, “I want to remind everyone, as always, how important it is to shop locally for it helps our local businesses/community year ‘round!”
