Machesney Park is a go-getter for growth, business
By Margaret Downing
Village of Machesney Park officials don’t just sit back and wait for “them to come to us.” They pursue new business and initiatives for the community and its residents.
Two vital employees; James Richard III, Village Administrator, and Dylan Moffit, Management Analyst, are one such pair who aggressively pursue new business according to Mayor Steve Johnson. “For instance, they attend retail trade shows which puts us in touch with businesses looking for a place to go,” he said recently.
Machesney Park has options for expansion. As far as attracting more business, Johnson explained, “We can go north of Hwy. 173, and our expansion (target) is east and west.”
Bringing in more business benefits not only the village but also its economy and residents due to more and more jobs opening up and that attracts more business.
Walkways, bike paths, career opportunities, infrastructure, the offerings through Harlem High School, including the chance to learn trades, good roads and access throughout, all go into the mix, This is a result of Machesney Park’s growth. The high school has one whole wing for on-hands trade learning.
“The whole area benefits,” Johnson pointed out. Industrial, aerospace, high tech, and the benefits of diversification of opportunities are all a plus. A good choice of various eateries also are important as it gives the whole area, not just Machesney Park a variety of places to go out to eat, those choices bring area people and more business.
Economic development is alive and well in the village.
In conjunction with growth, Machesney Park a new state-of-the-art D1 Training Center, a 4,500 square foot gymnasium at “Machesney Crossing,” 1003 West Lane, training center (815-569-5630) under franchise owners Jim and Laura Baluch, recently opened its doors. It has been described as a “non-traditional training facility” and the franchise chain dates back to its founding in Tennessee in 2001.
Per the business’ website, this is “an athletic-based training facility that isn’t another trend and doesn’t make false promises—we deliver results. The following information comes from the website – “Step into a D1 Training facility and you’ll immediately recognize that we’re not your average big-box membership gym. Unlike those gyms, which charge small membership fees and provide little in the way of service or support, D1 assembles teams of highly qualified coaches, fitness experts, and support personnel to provide our clients with a balance of cardio workout and strength training typically reserved for elite athletes at Division 1 schools. In fact, many of our staff and owners were elite athletes at D1 schools. It takes the best to train the best — and that’s exactly what we’re doing at D1 Training.
“The D1 Training franchise is a membership-based gym and boutique fitness franchise that provides individual and group training classes in a state-of-the-art facility, the likes of which are normally found on the campuses of the biggest schools and in the training centers of the best teams. Our coaches provide instruction in basic athleticism, advanced cross-training and fitness, and targeted workouts to improve overall performance.
“D1 coaches provide advanced athletic training for clients of all ages, from team conditioning for the junior high football team to strength and endurance classes for individuals looking to improve their overall health. D1 Training is the advanced gym for the whole family.”
