Man wanted for 2010 Rockford Murder found dead in Mexico
A Rockford man, wanted in connection to a nearly 10-year-old murder case, is found murdered in Mexico. On Sept. 10, 2010 shortly after 5:30 p.m., Rockford Police Officers responded to the 600 block of Morgan St. in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, 23-year-old Steven Miller, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Miller was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Detectives from the Rockford Police Department’s Violent Crimes and Gang units conducted a follow-up investigation into the incident. The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Alex Salgado and 21-year-old Alfonso Salgado Jr. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and authorized 1st Degree Murder charges against both suspects. Warrants were obtained with bonds set at $1 million. On Sept. 11, 2010, Alex Salgado was taken into custody and lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. Investigative information revealed that Alfonso Salgado Jr. had fled the country.
On Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, investigators confirmed that Alfonso Salgado Jr. was killed in Puebla, Mexico on Dec. 3, 2019.
