Superintendent Contract - PJ Caposey

Meridian CUSD 223 and Superintendent, Dr. PJ Caposey have reached an agreement to extend the Superintendent’s employment in the district. At the June Board of Education meeting the MCUSD Board unanimously approved a contract extension for Caposey keeping him in the district until (at least) June of 2021.

Meridian’s Board of Education and Caposey entered into discussions regarding a potential extension in the first quarter of this year. The two parties reached agreement and decided to extend the agreement through 2021 despite the fact Caposey’s previous contract did not expire until 2018.

MCUSD’s Board of Education President John Smith stated, “The extension of Dr. Caposey’s contract was decided upon with three driving factors. First, we are exceptionally pleased with his current performance and want him to serve as our Superintendent for as long as possible. Second, the Board desires to provide the district stability. When Dr. Caposey began acting as Superintendent he was our fifth person in that position in three years. This extension provides both the district and Dr. Caposey a certainty in how they will move forward in the coming years. Finally, the volatility of the educational environment when married to our own timelines of key events in the district led us to believe extending his contract at this time was the best strategic decision for the district.”

Dr. Caposey expressed gratitude for the Board of Education’s confidence in his performance and noted that he believes deeply that the district is headed in the right direction. He followed up by noting that while heading in the right direction, there was still plenty of work needing to be done and he was excited to continue moving forward.

Caposey has been with Meridian since July of 2013 and has served as Superintendent since May of 2014. Prior to his work in Meridian, Caposey served as High School Principal in Oregon, IL.
