As the holiday season is almost upon us, Harlem Community Center (HCC) is working up a few activities in keeping with that time of year. First on the calendar is the Mother-Daughter Team, being planned for 1-3 p.m. Dec. 4, a Sunday, at the Hand-in-Hand Community Room, 9350 Forest Hills Road in Loves Park. HCC will be celebrating mothers, grandmothers, aunts, friends and other special women, along with daughters of all ages. Petit sandwiches, desserts, tea and apple juice will be served. Local vendors will have handmade Christmas gifts available for purchase. Cost is $10 for adults and $12 for children. In addition, a professional photographer will be available to take photos at the event.

HCC’s free Family Movie Night will begin Friday (Nov. 18). The gymnasium will open at 6 p.m. with the movie, Angry Birds, beginning at 6:45 p.m. The staff advice is to “bring a blanket or other comfy items.” Popcorn, pop and candy will be available.

Holiday shopping already has begun, but for those still working on that, buying online will benefit HCC and its programs. Log on to Smile.Amazono.org and under your account settings, choose Harlem Community Center. Anything that is purchased equals a donation to HCC.

Finally, on Nov. 29, HCC will be participating in #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving. Residents are being asked by HCC officials to “help us build strong communities by contributing.”

Information from HCC states last year more than 45,000 organizations in 71 countries came together to celebrate #GivingTuesday.

Address questions about this or any activity or program to the HCC office at (815) 633-5817.
