Aubrey Green collected items to fill bags for seniors birthdays.

Stephen Mack Middle School seventh grade student Aubrey Green is now an official member of the National Jr. Honor Society after being inducted during a ceremony on Oct. 2.

All of the students who are invited and accepted into NJHS are required to have a GPA of 3.76 or higher, show leadership skills, must be of good character, be a good citizen, complete a service project, and to write an essay, Once all of these requirements are met students are chosen by the school board.

Green chose to brighten birthdays of seniors through Beloit Meals on Wheels, where she has volunteered several times.

“Meals on Wheels also does great things for seniors in my community,” Green said,

“For my service project I made birthday bags for the seniors to make their birthdays extra special.”

Green’s project took several steps to complete.

Her first step was to make a flier and to raise funds to purchase the items to place in each bag.

Each bag was filled with activities such as word puzzles and word searches, Girl Scout cookies, snacks, hygiene items plus other goods to make them special.

Green reflects, “Making the bags was an absolute blast!”

After finishing the bags Green brought them to Meals On Wheels to be delivered to the recipients,

Green received great amounts of support and help from her sister Jessica. “This was a great sister led project,” Jessica said.

This isn’t the first time that the Green sisters have volunteered together. For a number of years their family has joined in helping with preparing and wrapping gifts for the Rockton Lions Club Wimpy’s Fund.

Aubrey also currently serves on the Talcott Free Library Youth Advisory Board.

She also displays her talents on the SMMS dance team and is on the Miss Andrea’s Dance Factory Competition team.

“My favorite part of the project was delivering the bags on the seniors’ birthdays and getting to see their smiles. Knowing that I helped them smile and to bring them joy on their birthday made me feel so happy and thrilled,” Green said.

“I enjoyed doing my service project and I want to thank everyone at Beloit Meals on Wheels for their support. Thank you to everyone who donated, and the special donation of cookies from the Girl Scouts.”

Green’s project touched everyone who received a bag. As a result she received a really sweet, and heartfelt card from one of the people she had give a bag and an extra dose of happiness to.
