New deputy police chief in Loves Park
At its bi-monthly city council meeting May 15, Loves Park aldermen approved a number of resolutions, ordinances, and two proclamations:
*A resolution authorizing the chief of police to appoint Jerry Guetschow to Deputy Chief of Police, effective May 16, 2023 was approved. Former deputy chief, Mike McCammond recently filled the police chief position.
Additionally, per a proclamation, May 15 was designated as “National Peace Officers Memorial Day” with the week of May 15-21 as “National Police Week.”
The proclamation, read by Mayor Greg Jury, noted that “It is important that all citizens know and understand the role, duties, and responsibilities of their police department, and that members of our police department recognize their duty to serve and protect the people of our community; and “We call upon citizens in our community to especially honor the valor, service, and sacrifices, and show their sincere appreciation for the law enforcement officers of the City of Loves Park.”
Another proclamation declaring “Safe Boating Week” in the city noted, “Boating is one of the most popular recreational activities of the residents of this community, and the protection of life, limb, boats and marine property is the legal and moral responsibility of every boatman;” and, “It is both desirable and necessary to remind all boaters, from time to time, of their responsibilities and the constant need for safe boating practices and procedures; and to this end, as Mayor of Loves Park, I urge all boating enthusiasts to take stock of their boating habits and to correct or eliminate those which may be unsafe, and I further urge all boaters to respect the rights of other boaters and to avoid creating property damaging wakes, and washes…Therefore, I, Gregory R. Jury, as Mayor of the City of Loves Park, do hereby proclaim the week of May 15th, thru May 21st as Safe Boating Week.”
*A special event permit application from Frank Alvarez/Solar Events to hold a music festival and rodeo at Rockford Speedway, 9572 Forest Hills was approved for July 16 from 3 p.m. to 10:45 p.m.
*A resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a Redevelopment Agreement between the City of Loves Park, Illinois and TK 7003 Properties, LLC passed.
*A resolution authorizing the City to adopt Amendment No. 4 to the Loves Park Comprehensive Group Health Plan concerning COVID-19 was okayed.
*A resolution authorizing the City Treasurer to pay the Illinois Municipal League for
conference and hotel reservations for the 2023 Illinois Municipal League Conference in Chicago for September 21-23 passed.
*A resolution authorizing the mayor to execute a renewal of the Emergency Services Staffing Agreement between the City of Loves Park and Paramedic Services of Illinois of Itasca for the provision of Fire and EMS personnel to the City passed.
*A resolution was passed authorizing Plat No. 3 of Peak Sports Subdivision.
*A resolution was approved authorizing the street department manager to purchase a new T76-T4 Bobcat Compact Track Loader from Clark Equipment Co., West Fargo, N. Dakota, for a total cost of $100,342.40.
*A resolution passed authorizing the water department manager to hire Cahoy Pump Services, Sumner, Iowa, to make emergency repairs to Well No. 3 pumping equipment for a cost not to exceed $82,167.
*A resolution authorizing the street department manager to hire Chastain & Associates, LLC for engineering services for Riverside Blvd. and Material Ave. at a cost not to exceed $69,400 passed.
*A resolution authorizing the mayor to execute an Economic Development Agreement between the City of Loves Park, Ill. and Thayer Lighting, Inc. was approved.
–Ordinances, second reading approved included:
*An ordinance amending Section 90-126 (Security Deposits) of the Loves Park Code of Ordinances.
*An ordinance amending Section 90-120 (Administrative Fee) of the Loves Park Code of Ordinances.
*An ordinance establishing no parking on the west side of a portion of Hilltop Drive in the City of Loves Park.
*An ordinance approving the purchase of real estate at 41XX Windswept Way for municipal use.
*An ordinance providing for a special use permit for the property known as 6419 Material Ave.
The weekly fire department report listed 107 EMS incidents, 15 service calls, 26 (including fire) calls from April 23 to May 6.
Per the weekly police activity report for the week of April 23 through May 6, the department received 1,000 calls for service, made 27 arrests, issued 269 tickets and warning, and responded to 17 vehicle crashes.
In the previous week water department employees repaired a water main break in the 4000 block of Tumbleweed Tr, among other duties.
Between May 1 and 15, a service leak in the 5400 block of Bennett St., a service leak in the 5600 block of N. SECOND St., and a water service repair in the 3600 block of Gray Fox Run were cared for. The department also continued to observe the water main improvement project on Maple Ave. A water main break in the 4000 block of Stadium Dr. was also repaired.
