No Shave November month raises money for cancer care
It’s November and the Loves Park Police Department has decided to launch its third annual “No Shave November” program. This is a national campaign done by the nonprofit organization “No-Shave November”, which was launched in 2009 to raise awareness and funding for cancer prevention, education, and research.
We will be suspending our personal appearance policy for one month, while the officers grow beards in support of the Patricia D. Pepe Center for Cancer Care at Saint Anthony Medical Center. Participation is strongly encouraged and officers are donating $30, (or $1 a day), for the month of November. This has been related as being similar to the amount spent on shaving supplies for the month. The officers are also seeking donations from the community, in support of their effort, to meet the fundraising goal of $2,500.
Any donation can be made to the Loves Park Police Department, 540 Loves Park Dr., Loves Park, Ill. 61111, in care of the No-Shave November Program. We will collect all monies and make a final donation to the Pepe Center for Cancer Care at Saint Anthony Medical Center.
So, if you see a Loves Park Police Officer sporting a beard for the month of November, please know that it is for a good cause and they will be back to being clean shaven in 30 days. Also, the department is planning several awards for the officers who participate and we will keep the public up to date with photos on Facebook throughout the program. Thank you for your support of this cause.
