North Boone firefighters barbeque chicken for community

“The community looks forward to it,” Chief Gayle Worley of North Boone Fire Protection District #3 said. “Our chicken barbeque used to be held in Poplar Grove. We moved it to Caledonia in 1988, I think. No. 3’s first fundraiser was probably the chicken barbeque.
“Guests have a choice of a quarter chicken or a half chicken. That comes with potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, a roll, and a soft drink. We have slices of pie for a dollar for those that would like dessert.
“We usually serve around 1100 chicken dinners and today we have 1400 pounds of chicken for the event. There are 26 firefighter volunteers working here as well as the emergency medical unit so, in total, we have 35 volunteers helping and about 10 to 15 of our Explorers are…
