For the North Boone Lady Vikings, their offense has hit a “consistent” level, but it isn’t one which is good enough to contend for a conference title. There aren’t enough pieces in play.

Over the past three games, North Boone has averaged 33-points a game.

In a conference such as one which contains current regional champion Winnebago and defending state champion Byron, a lot more offense is needed. A different approach has to be sought and perfected.

With a success rate sitting at a development stage, certain answers have to be discovered before the IHSA Class 2A State Playoffs begin the week of Monday, Feb. 6 for North Boone.

On Monday, Jan. 23, North Boone had to play at Pecatonica. North Boone went back home for a match-up against Oregon the very next day. Details of these matches will be available in one of next week’s editions of the Belvidere Daily Republican.

As soon as the brief respite lifts, the Lady Vikings head on the road to take on Rockford Lutheran on Saturday, Jan. 28. As they close the month of January, they get to return home. Stillman Valley has had its own concerns to work through. The match-up looks a little more favorable for North Boone as they play on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

On Friday, Feb. 3, the final week of the regular season will be played and the IHSA Selection Committee will have already met.

When the seeds, 1-16 are issued, there is a chance North Boone will receive a lower option and be forced into having to play an extra night, just for the right to move into a round two game against one of the top teams in the complex.

Opening night competition could come in the form of South Beloit or Oregon, with the winner moving on to face Byron.

Another scenario, with a few wins, could feature South Beloit and Oregon playing for the right to move on to see the defending Class 2A State Champion.

In that scenario, North Boone might end up having to just deal with the defending regional champion Winnebago in the regional semi-final.

A few wins put in place before the IHSA Selection Committee meets might give North Boone a shot at a regional semi-final starting point, or, in other words, a preferred “option-B.” That could mean an upset in the regional semi-finals gives the Lady Vikings a shot at the First Round Crown.

North Boone knows what it has on offense. They have to control tempo. They have to find ways to make sure other teams have trouble playing North Boone style basketball. If 33 points is a scoring average, they must take steps to give up 32 points or less. A little luck or fortune means a regional title isn’t that far-conceived.
