North Boone not finding success on the court
The North Boone Vikings boys’ basketball team will look forward to the final weeks of regular season games with the hope of moving things along at the Class 2A State Playoffs the week of Monday, Feb. 20. There are seven games to be played before the post-season tips-off for the 2A participant.
There’s been no easy path to success. The difficulties within the Big Northern Conference have been ongoing. North Boone can’t seem to find the connections they needed this season
There have been blowouts by teams pushing the double-digit win total this year, but those same types of blowout decisions have been happening to North Boone by a lot of squads who got hot at the right time. North Boone hasn’t found a win streak that could help them get things turned around and time is running out in the winter season.
Since the calendar flip, North Boone is giving up, on average, 86 points a game, they are scoring, on average, closer to 43. The Vikings’ best showing in 2017 was a 95-59 loss to the Winnebago Indians. The score-differential added up in matches against Richmond-Burton, Rock Falls, and Mendota all on the road.
On Wednesday, Feb. 1, the Dixon Dukes visit North Boone and carry a 2-2 conference mark into the match with an overall record of 11-10. They are an average program playing in a difficult league and finding ways to win.
The rough road travels to the current Big Northern Conference leader’s location on Saturday, Feb. 4 as the Vikings set sail for Rockford Christian.
Three days later, they have to face one of the four teams sitting with one-loss records in conference play, Lutheran at the Rockford campus.
On Monday, Feb. 13, Christian Life opens a much-needed three game home stand for North Boone. They are a game above the .500 mark entering this week of action. The Eagles are 6-2 in the Northeastern Athletic Conference though.
Possibly the last chance for a regular season win will appear on Tuesday, Feb. 14 as Stillman Valley visits Poplar Grove for its final time this year.
An invitation to Genoa-Kingston on Friday, Feb. 17 closes the regular season campaign for North Boone.
Then, they can turn their attention to the post-season and the Class 2A State Tournament.
The IHSA Selection Committee will meet the second week of February to issue seeds and designation-locations for all teams playing in the Byron Sectional Complex.
Rockford Christian and Morrison will host the first round games with the Regional Champions to be decided Thursday, Feb. 23. Those representatives will then join up with the champions from the Aledo-Mercer County Regional as well as the Kewanee Class 2A Regional in the second round games in Byron.
The winner from the Byron Sectional will face off against the winner from the Seneca Sectional with the game to be played in DeKalb at the Northern Illinois Class 2A Super-Sectional. The winner moves on to the state finals.
