North girls edge Guilford by seven pins in NIC-10 bowling match

BOONE COUNTY – Belvidere North’s girls bowling team rebounded from a tough loss to Harlem to edge Guilford by seven pins in a pivotal NIC-10 match right before Christmas break.
The Lady Vikings won two of three games but the Lady Blue Thunder’s lone victory was by 79 pins, 1,246 to 1,167, and that made the difference. The final pin fall was 3,604 for North, now 5-1 in conference play, and 3,597 for Guilford (4-2).
Ashley Platt and Annissa Hintt led the way with a day-high 682 series and 268 single game, respectively. Hintt’s game now ranks fourth in the conference, while the 660 series she turned in that day was her personal best this year. Platt’s 682 series leads their team so far.
Additionally, Platt now is averaging 216 per game in NIC-10 competition and is tied with Becca Hagerman of Harlem for first place among individuals.
Team-wise, North’s 1,246 game and 3,604 series also were the day’s best, and currently rank No. 2 for the season.
Belvidere’s girls (4-2) ran into the Harlem buzz-saw, also on Dec. 15, and they lost, 3,489 to 3,129.
Meanwhile, boys’ teams at Belvidere and Belvidere North continue to find tough sledding. The Bucs (1-5) lost to front-running 6-0 Harlem, 3,702 to 3,433, with the Blue Thunder being nudged by 2-4 Guilford, 3,892 to 3,733.
In the victory over Guilford, Emily Nakashima in just her second varsity match shot a personal best 638 series with a season’s high 264 single game.
Other contributions came from Kylie Johnson with a 602 series; Brynn Lambrecht, a 520; and Marian Anderson, in her second varsity match, a 502.
For the Lady Bucs, Madelyn Deardorff carded her personal best series (615) and high single game (236). She was followed by Sara Deddo with a 552; Holley Steelberg, a 524; Hailey Carter, a 520; Alexis Sherman, a 471; and Hannah Lowery, a 447.
Paulson shoots 714
Meanwhile, Jordan Paulson cracked 700 for the first time this season, leading Belvidere North with a 714 series against Guilford. The 257 single game he carded the second week of the season remains his bests so far.
He was followed by Garrett Nelson with a 634; David Rayphole, a 625; Javier Martinez, a 595; Peyton Lutzow, a 592; and Josh Pawlowski, a 553.
Two Bucs turned in personal bests in the Harlem match. Freshman Kevin Jenks recorded a 661 series to go with a 237 high game. It was the second week in a row that he turned in two personal best efforts.
Meanwhile, sophomore Anthony Gutierrez, in his first varsity match of the year, chipped in a 548 series and 199 high game.
Other contributions came from Ben Deardorff with a 620 series, his second best of the winter; Zach Brawner, a 556; Joe Gallagher, a 539; and Larry Tripamer, a 507.
