North sophomore basketball team beats Huskies

BELVIDERE – The Belvidere North sophomore basketball team faced off against Harlem High School’s Huskies on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m. The first quarter went by slow, with Belvidere North only scoring 10 points and Harlem, only seven points the whole eight minutes.
The second period heated up despite a lack of points being added to the scoreboard.
The second period began with Belvidere North with the ball, but within seconds Harlem stole the ball and took it down the court to make a two point layup.
The second period continued with a series of fouls and little scores.
The period changed when Belvidere North dribbled the ball down the court and was fouled while shooting. North came away with two free throws making the score 12-9.
North took the ball up for a shot and another foul was called. This time North was able to make one out of his two free throw shots. Harlem recovered the rebound, but Belvidere North stole the ball back and made a two point layup, making the score 15-9.
The next score came after Harlem fouled North. Belvidere North made both of the free throw shots. Those two points brought the score to 17 to 9.
Soon after, Harlem took possession of the ball and North fouled Harlem. The Huskies were able to make one out of the two free throws.
The first half ended with North leading 17-10.
Belvidere North started the second half with possession of the ball. Harlem fouled North. Blue Thunder made one of two free throws, making the score 18-10.
Harlem’s number 3 then took the ball down the court for a two point layup. North retaliated by making a three point shot.
Later, North made another two points, bringing the score to 23-12.
Then, with only 40 seconds left of the third period, Harlem made a free throw after a foul, bringing their total up to 13 points.
Finally, with under 25 seconds left of the third period, Harlem fouled Belvidere North resulting in North scoring another point from the free throw.
The third period ended with a score of 25-13.
Harlem started the fourth period out with a two point layup, making the score 25-15. The next score was also made by Harlem and was good for a two point basket. That shot brought the score to 25-17.
Harlem fouled North again resulting in Blue Thunder making two free throw shots.
The next score was a two point layup made by North, bringing the score to 29-17.
Then, with 3:31 left of the game, Blue Thunder took a time out. After the time out, North made a two point basket, making the score 31-17.
North came back with more free throw points after being fouled again.
After a while, Harlem came back with another two points, putting the score to 31-19.
North continued to score, after being fouled once again. Blue Thunder added another two points from the free throws followed by a two-point lay-up.
The game ended with North winning 35-19.
