North Suburban Library remodel nearing completion
Officials expect to complete work on the library’s Loves Park branch by May, two months ahead of the projected completion date.
LOVES PARK – North Suburban’s Loves Park branch has been a bit noisier than the average library in recent days, but officials at Ringland-Johnson Construction say that renovations are nearly finished.
Ringland-Johnson began the $3.4 million renovation project last July with a schedule to finish work within one calendar year.
The plan originally called for a three-phase project but was eventually condensed into just two phases. The construction firm now says that crews are ahead of schedule by almost two months, and the library will soon be ready to operate at full capacity.
Workers were able to make accommodations during construction to allow the library to remain open during regular hours.
Library patrons will enjoy a number of additional benefits from the remodel. Ringland-Johnson added several new components to the facility, including: new bathrooms, an enhanced computer network with fiber optic technology and a small auditorium with a projection wall for film viewings and presentations. Additional bookshelves and independent study rooms were also added.
The building itself also received an upgrade with a completely restored roof, energy efficient LED lights and an HVAC system with central management for all North Suburban Library branches.
Large picture windows line the building’s east side to allow to create more natural lighting for readers. Ringland-Johnson also worked to overhaul the building’s electrical and plumbing systems and installed new carpeting throughout the first floor.
