Ogle-Lee RTA awards three scholarships
The Ogle-Lee Retired Teachers Association (RTA) awarded three $500 scholarships this year to college junior or seniors working towards a degree in education. Two scholarships were from the Ogle-Lee RTA Scholarship Fund donations and one was the Pamela J. Farris Scholarship.
The $500 Pamela J. Farris Scholarship was awarded to Heather Braden of Oregon. Braden is a senior student at Northern Illinois University, majoring in Elementary Education/ESL. She is taking classes on campus and teaching two days a week in a second-grade class at Oregon Elementary School; she will student teach full-time for the second semester in that same classroom.
One of the $500 Ogle-Lee RTA Scholarships was awarded to Lauren Giddings. She graduated from Stillman Valley High School. Giddings is a Golden Apple Scholar Program senior in the Rockford University elementary education program with endorsements in visual arts, special education, English as a second language, and early childhood. She is currently student teaching in at Cherry Valley School.
The other $500 Ogle-Lee RTA Scholarship was awarded to Abigail Wehler of Mount Morris. She was home schooled. Wehler is a senior at Wheaton College in the secondary education and English programs. She is currently student teaching in the suburbs in middle school English.
