The proposed architectural plan for the new Pec Playhouse Theatre.

After the roof collapse in February of 2021, the Pec Playhouse Theatre went in search of a new home. It was in December of 2023 that the Pec Playhouse Theatre board first viewed the “Bennett Construction Building” situated on the corner of Third and Reed Streets as a possible home. The decision was soon made to purchase that building, the adjoining property, and home for renovation as the new theater.

Pec Playhouse Theatre continues to work towards their goal of renovation/building for the new theater. They started a capital campaign to raise the necessary funds needed for construction. They have also enlisted a local contractor and have had an architectural plan drawn up, showing the layout of their new facility.

They have completed yet another step in this process by transferring ownership of the historic Granary on Main Street to the Pecatonica Improvement Association (PIA).  The PIA stands ready to begin a project for developing the Granary into a useful part of Main Street and further improve the downtown area of Pecatonica.

“The main streets and business districts of our cities and villages are vitally important to our local economy,” said Angela Kay Larson, CEO of Greater Rockford Chamber of Commerce. “Along with selling useful products and services, our main street businesses can create truly unique experiences that benefit residents and visitors alike.”

Pec Playhouse Theatre’s capital campaign manager, Laurie S. Miller, hopes to raise the remaining $400,000 to reach the goal of $1.7 million so that construction can begin early in 2026.
