Perry Elementary hosts fundraiser for new books, playground equipment
BELVIDERE – Perry Elementary School will host their first ever, Race for Education.
The Race for Education is a great opportunity for the local community to come support the oldest school in Belvidere. Due to Perry Elementary School’s old age, they are in need of some new library books for theirs are outdated and highly worn.
Perry School would like to give back to their students outside the classroom as well. Perry has the smallest playground, and although they do not have much room to expand the little playground, they would like to raise money in order to buy one piece of new equipment for the playground.
“We have had money donations come in and we are very thankful for everyone’s generosity,” Katie Berndt of Perry Elementary said. “We have raised around $9,000 so far, and although this seems like a large sum of money, playground equipment is very costly. We would appreciate any donations.”
To help raise funds, Perry Elementary will host Race for Education on Wednesday, April 20 where the children will take turns walking for one hour around the school.
“We would love anyone to come and support the kids while they walk,” Berndt said.
Also, on Tuesday, May 3 at 10 a.m., the student who brought in the most address labels will get to go on a limo ride with Mrs. Dahlseng to Pizza Hut.
