Police promote community relations with kids in Wantz Park
Loves Park Police Officers stopped by Wantz Park on Tuesday, July 26 to deliver popsicles that one of the officers donated. With all the negative news about police officers over the recent past, it was remarkable to see dozens and dozens of excited kids rush the police car. Excited to see the police!
We traded “high fives,” conversations and received great handmade cards from the kids. The kids also got to sit in the police car, but the best part of the visit was when Officer Johnson broke out in song with the kids and Sgt. Depauw joined from a distance.
Many of the cards simply thanked us for the popsicles, but some thanked us for protecting them, protecting their families, or even thanking officers for risking their lives every day.
In place of National Night Out this year, we have challenged our officers to make regular non-enforcement contacts with the Community, while still being vigilant and keeping our Community safe.
Since challenging the officers, they have already made contact with hundreds of community members and are discussing ways to reach thousands more.
The Loves Park Police appreciate all of the support the community has been expressing, especially because they know that without the community’s support, they will fail.
