Ric Brereton announces candidacy for mayor
BELVIDERE – Ric Brereton, current treasurer for the City of Belvidere formally declared himself as a candidate for mayor of the City of Belvidere Thursday, March 17.
The announcement of his 2017 campaign took place at Bush Gardens in downtown Belvidere at 6 p.m.
“Relationships, inclusiveness, and communications will be a central theme of my campaign,” said Brereton to a room full of well-wishers.
Brereton, born and raised in Belvidere, has served as Belvidere’s city treasurer since 2013 and is also serving his second term as president of the Boone County Republican Club.
He is the son of longtime, former mayor Fred Brereton.
“My involvement has helped me build strong relationships with city, township, county, and state officeholders, including Republicans, Democrats, and Independents,” he said.
Brereton “loves Belvidere” and also has served as operations manager for Brereton Inc. since 2005, where he is a licensed insurance broker.
The Republican primary election will be Feb. 28, and the general election will be April 4, 2017.
