This iconic photo of Firefighters raising the American flag at Ground Zero has come to honor all Firefighters and First Responders who risk their lives to help others.

September 11, popularly called 9-11, will forever be remembered by those of us who lived through that day. Many, many lives were touched by the tragedy of that attack.

This year, on Sunday, Sept. 2, a Ride to Remember will begin in Woodstock where a field of 403 flags will honor the First Responders who lost their lives that day. The riders will be escorted by police and fire departments the entire route. They will travel to the Boone County Fairgrounds by way of Kishwaukee Valley Road to County Line Road. They will turn off County Line Road onto Marengo Road and will take US Route 20 to the Boone County Fairgrounds where they will gather before their return trip.

The return route will take the riders north on Route 76 past Candlewick Lake. They will then take Route 173 through Poplar Grove, Capron, and Chemung in Boone County to Harvard in McHenry County and back to Woodstock.

There will be two fire department ladder trucks displaying the American flag in honor of the Twin Towers – Tower One and Tower Two.
