Rockford Speedway hosts Kids Night
Repeat winners lead the way on ‘Kids Night’ at Rockford Speedway.
Those who know their way to the victory lane found their way back to the hallowed ground during Metro Medical Kids Night at Rockford Speedway.
Leading the charge was current Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Model point leader Michael Bilderback, who captured his division with his third win of the year on Saturday, July 16. Bilderback charged around pole-sitter Adam Peschek for the top spot on lap nine and never looked back en route to the win. Anyone who is an ardent fan of NASCAR fantasy at FanDuel would have loved this thrilling event!
Current point’s runner-up ‘Driver X’ Jon Reynolds Jr. followed Bilderback to the checkered flag and collected a second place finish, with ‘Insane Wayne’ Freimund taking third.
Peschek ended the night with his best-ever result at Rockford, a fourth place finish.
Kyle Shear finished the 30-lap race in fifth place, despite not knowing whether or not he would be able to race at the beginning of the night.
Shear pinch-hit for Wisconsin’s Chris Purdy became ill early in the night.
Bargain Hunter Sportsman Rookie of the Year contender Chris Jones found victory lane for the second time this season, assuming the lead around the halfway mark of the 25-lap feature event.
Jones stayed ahead of some mid-race chaos on his way to the win.
Brett McCoy and Howie Ware, members of the aforementioned mid-race chaos, finished second and third, with Brian White fourth and Jeff Watson rounding out the top five.
No one has won more open wheeled races at Rockford Speedway over the past five years than Patrick Bruns. On Saturday, July 16, the Champaign resident placed another feather in his cap with a win in the 20-lap Illini Midget Series feature.
Bruns ripped the lead away from Scott Koerner on lap nine and was never seriously challenged again.
Koerner came home in second, with West Chicago’s Jordan Caskey in third.
A late-race yellow in the 15 lap Hornet feature allowed Tyler Deschaine the chance to win his second straight race in the division.
Deschaine did not waste the opportunity, passing race-long leader Erik Pearson with six laps to go. Pearson held on to earn second, while Tanner Sandall ended the race in third place.
