Rockton American Legion, Auxiliary recognize police, fire personnel

Rockton Police officers and Fire personnel gathered at the Rockton fire station on Sunday, March 26. The occasion was a very special awards luncheon organized to recognize outstanding service performed by representatives of both the police and fire departments.
The Rockton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary provided rows of soup, hot beef sandwiches, specialty salads, de-serts and beverages. The American Legion Post #332 Sons of the Legion and Riders contributed to the meal. Ralph Kramer and Mike Kohler of the Sons of the Legion each played an integral part in the day’s action.
Twelfth District Commander, Dave Johnson, and 12th District President, Sue Johnson of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary were the presenters of each award.
“Being a first Commander is all about family, and reaching out to fellow families in the Legion,” said Commander Johnson. In their capacities as District President, and Commander the Johnson’s travel to 45 posts. “We are working hand in hand with other Legions, “said Johnson. Johnson credited his wife, Sue for coming up with the idea of host-ing an awards luncheon.
“I am a retired firefighter of 32 years and I know the risk involved,” said Johnson. “Sue never told me how much it bothered her each time I took the risk of going on duty, he shared. “I appreciate what you provide for this community.”
Legionnaires, Sons of the Legion, the Riders and the ladies Auxiliary each play separate support roles in the overall American Legion Post 332. “The Sons of the Legion each have a Father, or Grandfather who have served our country,” said
