Rockton Firefighters were called to this house fire at 4:43 a.m. on Dec. 29. The fire was located in the 1500 block of Center Street in South Beloit.

Rockton Firefighters were called to a house fire at 4:43 a.m. on Dec. 29. The fire was located in the 1500 block of Center Street in South Beloit.

Initial reports from dispatch indicated the home was vacant. The Fire Chief arrived and reported a working fire in the rear of the structure.

Automatic aid from South Beloit and Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department’s along with Northwest Rescue responded to assist.

South Beloit made the initial fire attack and Rockton Engine 1402 stretched an additional hand line for back up. A primary search of the building was completed and there were no occupants found.

A MABAS alarm was activated for change of quarters only (fire station coverage). Rock Energy was contacted to control utilities.

The fire was quickly brought under control and overhaul was complete. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted, and a fire investigator responded to the scene.

Damage estimates have not yet been determined. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office was on the scene and the fire remains under investigation.

Chief Wilson would like to commend all who responded to the scene as well as the agencies who protected the fire district while fire crews mitigated this incident.
