In keeping with tradition, the Annual Roscoe Christmas Parade and Party will get underway a few days after Thanksgiving on Saturday, Nov. 26. Festivities begin at 4:30 p.m., with a parade down Main Street that will include Christmas-themed floats, music and Santa with his eight reindeer/Harlem Roscoe Firemen pulling his sleigh.

The Parade will make its way down to Bridge Street where Village President Dave Krienke will turn on the Christmas lights signaling the beginning of the Christmas season. Dozens of Christmas trees decorated with lights of every color are going up in the park south of Village Hall. Each tree is sponsored and decorated by area businesses, organizations, families and/or organization. Giant containers have been placed near the trees where canned food and non-perishable items can be dropped off. Donations can also be taken to the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department on Main Street. The items will be donated to area food pantries.

Judges will determine the winner of the tree-decorating contest with the winner being announced later in the evening. After the tree lighting, everyone is invited to stop by Village Hall for the Christmas party. Cookies, hot chocolate and coffee will be available. Costumed elves from “Kids Spot” will be there to help kids with games and activities and to hand out prizes. All of the prizes have been donated by businesses in the Roscoe area. The Stateline Chamber and The Herald Newspaper are sponsors of a children’s coloring contest. The young artist’s work will be on display throughout Village Hall with special recognition trophies given to the winners.

After Santa makes his journey down Main St., he will be seated in his favorite chair in the party room at Village Hall, where his young fans can whisper their Christmas wishes in his ear. A photographer will be on hand to snap pictures of each child’s interaction with Santa. Everyone in the area is invited to attend the free holiday parade and party kicking off the beginning of the 2016 Christmas holiday season.
