The Belvidere Bucs girls’ basketball team improved to 10-5 on the 2024-2025 season, just ahead of the holiday break. The Bucs went into the break on a high-note as back-to-back hard fought victories helped to get them into the holiday spirit.

The Bucs earned an impressive victory over Marian Central Catholic on Dec. 18. That day, basketball fans got some free entertainment as it took on overtime period to decide a winner. MCC had an excellent fourth quarter, outscoring the Bucs 13-7 to keep the game alive.

It was all Belvidere in the overtime period, however. The Bucs outscored MCC 17-4 on their way to an 80-67 victory. Senior, Emma Pierson, was lights out as she finished with 42 points, while hitting over 50 percent of her shots. Pierson also had five steals in the win.

Fellow senior Arianna LaBeau was also a problem for the MCC defense. LaBeau racked up 29 points and 10 rebounds in an epic double-double performance. LaBeau also had seven assists as she approached the rare high school triple-double.

That senior duo has led the way all season, and the same was true in the final game of December. They played host to the Harlem Huskies on Dec. 20, and it was another game that required an all-out performance from their senior duo.

Harlem, despite having a record of just 2-9, never let the Bucs run away with this one. It took a relentless effort from Pierson and LaBeau, who combined to shoot the ball 50 times in the game. Neither shot above a 40-percent clip, but they did combine for 47 of Belvidere’s 59 total points.

Pierson led the way in scoring with 24 points, while LaBeau was right behind her with 23. They needed each and every bit of those points as Belvidere went on to win by a final score of 59-51. Kayla Beaudet was the team’s next leading scorer with 6 points.

This time around, it was Pierson who tallied the double-double as she finished with eleven rebounds to lead the team. Eight of those rebounds came on the defensive end. Pierson also racked up eight steals in the win.

LaBeau finished with nine rebounds, six steals and two blocks as she made her presence felt in this one. The duo of LaBeau and Pierson continues to be a force to be reckoned with as they continue to find ways to expose opposing defenses.

With the victory, the Bucs improved to 1-5 and were 3-1 over their last four games played. They return home on Jan. 7, when they play host to the Hononegah Indians. Hononegah got off to a 9-6 start to their season. That game is set to tipoff at 7:15 p.m.
