Sister Cities Association of Belvidere awards young artists

BELVIDERE – The Sister Cities Association of Belvidere held their 28th Annual Art Show Awards Saturday April 26 in Belvidere.
The Sister Cities Young Artist and Author show was open to youths between the ages of 13 and 18. The show and award presentation were held at Alpine Bank, located at 311 Logan Ave. in Belvidere.
Sister Cities President Brad Peters and Alpine Bank Senior Vice President of Retail Operations Kelly Rink each presented the three awards to the three young artist winners.
First place was awarded to Alex Avila, for his piece titled “Countries in Unity.”
Second place was awarded to Roberto Avila Jr. for his piece entitled “Peace Everywhere.”
LoriAnne Flaherty took third place; her piece is titled “Hands of Peace.”
First place won $250, second place won $200, and third place received $100.
All entrants in the art show received a certificate of participation.
The winning artwork by Alex Avila will be entered in the National Young Artists and Authors Showcase to be held in Washington, D.C. in the spring of 2016.
There, the artwork will compete against pieces submitted by Sister Cities’ chapters from across the globe. Six artists will be named as Grand Prize Winners in one of six different categories and receive a prize of $1,000.

The Belvidere Sister Cities Association of Belvidere, Ill. Inc. is a non-profit organization formed in 1988.
They have two Sister Cities; Schwieberdingen, Germany and Vaux-le-Pénil, France. Belvidere Sister Cities sponsors 4 youths for a student exchange every summer with Schwieberdingen and Vaux-le-Pénil.
