Sister Cities Association

The Sister Cities Association of Belvidere hosted their Road Rally 2019 on Aug. 25. The competition involved solving ten puzzles such as word searches, unscrambling words, rebus puzzles, and even a jigsaw puzzle. Each puzzle answer led the six teams to a location in Boone County. After driving their cars to that location, they had to answer some questions about that location before trying to solve the next puzzle.

After about four hours, the teams had solved all ten puzzles. Then they returned to the Buchanan Street Pub, 111 Buchanan St., for the post-rally party and the scoring of their answers. The weather was perfect for the party in the beer garden. Some of the teams dressed up in matching shirts or decorated their cars to show their team spirit.

The teams were:

-Victory Riders – headed by Dave and Paul Richter, members of the Sister Cities Assoc.

-Belvidere Bloodhounds – headed by Gina DelRose of Belvidere City Hall and three other City Hall employees.

-Road Scholars – made up of Sister Cities Assoc.’s members Janet Hyland, Roth Todt, and Moha and Jean Bouacha.

-Pig Latin Pros – Sister Cities’ members Donna Peters, Bill Bailey, Naomi Schultz, and Bob Lund.

-King Richard and the Queens – a team from General Mills/Green Giant, headed by Linda Castro-Sebena and three other Green Giant employees.

-Repeators – a team headed by Lyddie Moore and Mary Peterson, Sister Cities Assn. members who were hoping to repeat last year’s win.

This year’s locations-to-find were a variety of places. Some were businesses and some were Boone County landmarks. The teams even had to drive to Garden Prairie Cemetery to look for the grave of Daniel Stott. They were surprised to discover from his grave marker that he had been poisoned by…
