State Rep. Sosnowski recognizes summer readers
Dozens of local kindergarten through sixth grade students who participated in the 9th annual summer reading program sponsored by State Rep. Joe Sosnowski, R-Rockford, were recognized for their commitment to reading at a pool party held on Thursday, July 25, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Peak Sports Club in Loves Park.
“Our goal is to provide children the opportunity to see how reading can impact their lives in a positive way,” Rep. Sosnowski said. “Reading can open up unlimited possibilities for kids and keep their minds active as they have fun during summer break. We try to make the brochures available to every child within the age bracket, but I invite anyone interested in participating next year to contact my office.”
Participants were allowed to choose their own books and were required to complete and return a list of ten books read in order to receive an invitation to the summer readers’ recognition pool party. At the celebration, the students and their families enjoyed ice cream, received prizes for their achievement as a summer reader, and also entered for the chance to win a Barnes and Noble gift card. A total of 67 students participated in Rep. Sosnowski’s summer reading program this year.
Local schools in Boone and Winnebago Counties serving students in kindergarten through sixth grades in the 69th District were invited to participate in Rep. Sosnowski’s summer reading program. Brochures were distributed to participating elementary schools, local libraries, and other learning centers throughout the 69th District in May. This year’s theme, “Be A Monster Reader”, featured monster trucks. Previous year’s themes have featured space exploration, camping, and other engaging activities.
