Stillman Valley Chess Team competes at State tournement
Stillman Valley High School Chess Team competed in Peoria at the IHSA State Chess Tournament. The team went three wins to four losses and placed 91st after being seeded 120th.
KJ Chavers won five matches and tied one on the fifth board and received a Bronze medal for Outstanding Individual Achievement.
Other students competing were Hunter Peterson (Board 1), Nathaniel Seivert-Carter (Board 2), Parker Gensler (Board 3), Ara Michigan (Board 4), Trevor Miller (Board 6), Grace Vanbriesen (Board 7), Landon Paff (8 Board), Levi Coppernoll (8 Board) and Joshua Reisinger.
Phil Bratta, the SVHS Chess Coach, stated, “This is a young team and they participated in the state tournament for the first time and did very well.
“All team members contributed to their success as a team. Some very close matches were against much bigger schools… Well done Cardinals!”
