Stillman Valley High School Esports hosted a Smash Brothers Ultimate Tournament
Stillman Valley High School’s (SVHS) new Esports team hosted Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Tournament and placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Senior, Landon Henry (as “Kirby”) scored for first place. Luna Taylor (as “Banjo”) got second and Tori Berger (as “Dark Pit”) got third.
SVHS Esports advisor, Devin Standard, said, “It’s great to see students getting recognized for their talents. This gives students a chance to gain experience in the competitive realm and allows for them to represent the school in a different way than traditional sports do.”
Heather Alderks, SVHS Activities Director, states, “Esports is an emerging IHSA program. Many schools have started adding it as one of their activities offered. We are happy to be able to add this for our student body as a non-traditional sport.”
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a 2018 crossover fighting game developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd., and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. The game follows the series’ traditional style of gameplay: controlling one of various characters, players must use differing attacks to weaken their opponents and knock them out of an arena.
It features a wide variety of game modes, including a campaign for single-player and multiplayer versus modes. Ultimate includes every playable character from all previous Super Smash Bros. games, along with several newcomers, for a total of over 80. The roster ranges from Nintendo mascots to characters from third-party franchises.
